Syros

Syros is an island of the Cyclades and capital is Ermoupolis , which is the capital of the Region of South Aegean and former Cyclades .

The name Syros comes from the first inhabitants of the island , the Phoenicians .

There are two versions for the name . According to the first , the name comes from the word ” Ousyra ” which means happy , while according to the second , from the ” sur ” meaning rock .
